Never hired a content writer? It’s not as scary as you think. Bonus: This does not require a visit to a chilly doctor’s office.
Q. What is a content writer?
A: I write and edit many forms of content, including blog posts, newsletters, the words on your website and more. Lately, I’m also helping people create video blog posts or appearing in those posts for my camera-shy clients.
Q: With whom do you work?
A: I work for Chief Everything Officers, or sole proprietors/entrepreneurs in Raleigh, Durham, and Cary, N.C. I also contract with a marketing and public relations agencies.
Q: How do we begin?
A: Simple. You tell me what you need, I ask questions, propose a project scope and cost, and we go from there. I love to meet in person, but I’m happy to discuss details with you by phone. I generally require a signed contract before beginning work. If it’s a long-term project or you are a new client, I may ask for part of the estimated total up front.
Q: Do you charge an hourly rate or a project rate or a retainer?
A: All of the above. I often charge by the project because every job is different. Some of my clients have a mixture of needs and thus get charged by the hour. Many clients pay a monthly retainer for services. I find it’s easier on everyone if we all know the cost each month.
Q: I feel your prices are higher than some other bloggers and writers I have seen. Why should I hire a Raleigh content writer instead of someone online?
A: As with any service, you can find a range of price points. Yes, you can hire a writer on Fiverr to write you a blog post for $5. You get what you pay for. Is that blog post going to be in the right voice for your business? Are you willing to trust your brand to someone churning out hundreds of posts per day? Can you meet with him/her in person? I provide quality writing of course, but more than that, I research you and your brand. I get to know your business so I can become your business, your voice, representing you online just as you would. I provide the best representation of you. I also provide a range of other services and skills, including interviewing, which is often needed to create high-quality content.
Q: Does your writing work include revisions?
A: Yes, some revisions are usually included as part of the project scope.
Q: What do you need from me?
A: Here is what I need to know about you and your project so I can make sure we’re on the same page (pun intended):
- Deadline – Working in the news industry taught me to meet unreasonable deadlines, but if the copy needs to be on your website yesterday, I can’t help you. Please let me know the time frame up front so we can make sure you get what you want when you need it.
- Restrictions – As I write or edit for you, is there a phrase you want me to avoid or include? What should I know about the issue?
- Expectations – What are your goals? Who are you trying to reach? What do you hope to gain? I can’t lasso the moon for you, but I can and will produce clean, strong copy. I guarantee I will work my hardest.
